SSUNS!

What an incredible ride. SSUNS 2003, a high school model United Nations conference held in Montreal this past weekend, has come to a close. We welcomed almost 900 high-school delegates to the Delta Centre-Ville hotel for 4 days of debate and diplomacy. Our committees and events were a huge success, and I feel that it was a huge improvement over last year. If any of you attended the event please let me know what you felt about it, as well as what committee you were on! We had 18 committees simulated and as far as I've heard the feedback was rather positive.

It's been a great experience being on the Secretariat of this conference! If you are interested in the UN and enjoy diplomacy and international relations then I heartily suggest you get involved with MUN activities. It's a great way to educate youth about important concepts such as HIV/AIDS and international security, in a fun and diverse setting...

Next step, the UNA-USA high school MUN conference in New York in May 2004!

That’s awesome that it went so well Mikael. I’m glad that you and the delegates had fun hosting/participating in it. Good job! I know how exciting and educational MUN conferences can be. I’m part of a MUN here in Vancouver. It’s called DOUGIMUN and its run through our college. Were excepting a lot of participants to come, and we have a lot of international delegates coming also. I’ll also be going to the Cairo MUN next march…so I’m looking forward to participating in a International MUN abroad in Egypt.

I also highly suggest to everyone and anyone to get involved with MUN conferences happening around the world. It’s defiantly one of the best ways to educate youth and participate in negating/debating world issue. And its very, very fun representing a country as an informal ambassador.

Hey Mikael, I’m curious to know what committees you guys had this year?

What a shame I'll miss that MUN taking place in Egypt (HNMUN 2004), which is one of the fewest MUNs to ever take place in Africa. Happy for you SSUNS really sound like it was exciting! Good luck to you guys at UNA-USA and DOUGIMUN (I wonder what this stands for) and HNMUN in 2004. Does anyone know of an African MUN? (apart from HNMUN in Egypt which is a US rotational MUN). I also believe MUNs are such an excellent idea that should not be missed.
